Recognition of Prior Learning: The guiding modules learnt in this course are the same ones in the other guide courses like Nature Guide and Culture Guide, and therefore through RPL you do not need to redo them when doing those courses!

Note: While this qualification is officially called a "site" guide, a GASG is not limited to a specific site with this qualification.

What You’ll Learn

The Generic Adventure Site Guide program (minimum 40 credits) equips you with the theoretical and practical skills to lead safe, exciting, and educational adventure experiences. Unit Standards included in this are:

How to conduct a guided adventure experience (335816): Learn how to prepare for and how to conduct an adventure based guided experience, and how to conclude and review an adventure based guided experience.
Care for customers (246740): Learn how to identify customer needs and expectations, recognise customer dissatisfaction and take action to resolve the situation, identify and use opportunities to enhance the quality of customer service, and communicate with all customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
Conduct a tourist guiding activity (335801): Learn about tourist adventure guiding in the outdoors, including how to prepare participants, how to supervise, and how to conclude a tourist guiding activity.

Minimise and manage safety and emergency incidents (255914): Learn how to implement policy to promote the prevention of safety and emergency incidents, manage emergency incidents; which affect the safety of an individual, group or crowd, manage the reaction of an individual, group or crowd to safety or emergency incident.
Lead participants through an outdoor recreation and adventure
activity (262317): Learn how to lead participants through a specialised activity and how to apply safety practices to ensure participant's physical well-being.
Set up and operate a camping site (262246): Learn how to select a suitable camping site within the area of operation, conclude logistical arrangements according to identified intervention requirements, and how to conduct and conclude a camping safety intervention.

The learner must also provide his/her certificate in the specialization field, or physical proof of experience/knowledge, or alternatively take one of our specialization courses. The following adventure activity specializations are accepted for this qualification:
